Chevron Mining Inc, mines molybdenum ("moly") a few miles east of Questa. The mine dates back to the 1920's and mining activities continue. Chevron is proposing operational changes that would allow for an early closure of the existing tailing facility and pipeline removal, while still allowing sustained mining operations. Additionally, to clean up the acid-generating waste rock at the site, a remedial design strategy must be developed. Amigos Bravos will be participating in these multi-stakeholder technical meetings that began January 23rd, 2013.

To build grassroots capacity, Amigos Bravos supports community-based water quality monitoring efforts by providing technical assistance, Clean Water Act trainings, and loaning out monitoring equipment. Amigos Bravos pursues strong regulatory and policy initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help our rivers and wetlands adapt to climate change, in turn helping the wildlife and human communities that depend on those waters.
